Learning Log PART 5 continued and the end of the course

I submitted my finished Assignment 5 at the end of June and received a positive feedback from my tutor at the beginning of July. There were a few recommendations for further research and suggestions what to consider improving my assignment. I started to work on these straight away as I knew I was soon leaving for my summer holiday and I wouldn’t be back till mid August, when I need to register for formal assessment in November. I have managed to do all the adjustments recommended but didn’t have time to submit it on my blog before I travelled.
My summer was fabulous as I stayed in Prague with my husband and we stayed out late in to night and dragged our tripods to create some night light photography in the well-known parts of Prague. We started at the Venceslav Square and carried on through the Old Town to the Charles Bridge. Despite of being late at night, there were still lots of people, so a long exposure was handy as people became unrecognizable and like ghost images.

I loved experimenting with reflections of the architecture and neon signs in puddles on the Venceslav Square. I liked to explore the style, which Rut Blees Luxemburg employed in her project of exploration of public spaces in cities.

I also repeated this again with my friend and other photography enthusiasts in my home city Pardubice, in the Czech Republic. They were all of them just beginners and they have never tried to use a long exposure to try to create a night light photographs. We had a great time and there  were not that many people around but the scenery was as good as in Prague as the city has a small old square called ’Perstyn Square’ with a tall clock tower.

At the beginning of August, we visited Poland for a wedding of our friends and we stayed in Warsaw for two days. We have never been to Warsaw before and it surprised us with a modern architecture, excellent food, great service and friendliness of people. Warsaw is a city with new tall skyscrapers but also with old parts; such as the Old Town Square. However, even seemingly old houses are fairly new as 85% architecture had to be re-built after WWII. When walking around I have noticed of street lamps positioned against colourful facades of houses, so I started to create a set.

We returned home from holiday in the middle of August just in time for me to submit my reflection on tutor’s feedback, final notes and summary for my entire course.

Well, it is the 1st of September and I’m submitting this last piece of my log/diary.
I must admit, it hasn’t been always easy and I sometimes struggled time wise, as I guess lots of students do, when they have a full time job and family. However, I have reached the end of my ’bumpy ride’ and I feel I have learnt lots of new things along the way, tried and experimented with techniques and elements, which I would never have embarked on if I was just going along taking pictures. I enjoyed my course thoroughly and I am looking forward to the future.

I know I have still, have a long way to go and a lot to learn and experiment with. I would love to use a film for some of my next assignments and I will change my blog style as it may not be completely clear to an outsider how to navigate it. I might organise it like one of my fellow student, on the link below, as it looks more professional and it’s faster navigated.

My submission
As a part of my submission, at the last minute, I decided to create a photo book to accompany my final submission. I am familiar with Photobox, an online printing company, where I usually have my photo books printed. They provide good quality products, fast service and also value for the money; but the last time when I had my photo book printed there I wondered, if I can get a better finish somewhere else. I have seen a Blurb book before and I was curious, how they compare to Photobox. I did a bit of research, created a book in Lightroom and uploaded the whole design onto Blurb website. It was very easy and a huge advantage was I could create the book on my PC and upload it to the website, where in Photobox you have to design whole book online. When the book arrived I was very pleased with the quality of the paper and the look of images. I think I found my new supplier of photo books.
Therefore, my submission for the official assessment is my blog, which is organised as a diary so it needs to be navigated through from the bottom pages first. Another part of my submission is two notebooks, which compliment my blog, show my ideas, planning and extra research. The last part of my submission is my photo book with final images from all five assignments, and final set of 9 prints for Assignment 5.
